When we first met Staff Sergeant Johnnie Yellock three years ago, he was simply known as our local hometown hero moving into the neighborhood. Adkins Elementary wanted to celebrate him and his heroism, but in return, in pure Yellock style, we were awed by the manner in which he connected with our students. During assemblies, he would have the entire school, adults and children alike, hanging onto his every word. His natural ability to relate complex concepts in an easy to understand manner has helped Adkins Aviators understand what it means to serve our country and to see our military servicemen and women as the Guardians of our peace. What Johnnie brought to a gymnasium full of middle school students must have been laced with some sort of unfamiliar magic. It’s not often this principal sees over six-hundred thirteen year old students so captivated, each processing the message Johnnie so eloquently delivered. I appreciate the way Johnnie tailors his message for his audience, sacrificing nothing of patriotic passion, but smartly shaping his points that then resonate with those fortunate enough to hear them.

You didn’t just present a “story,” you connected with a group that possesses their own struggles with what the future holds. Your experience spoke to not only veterans, but anyone who faces challenges. Hearing how your military dreams were literally crushed and how you chose to overcome and see your dreams in a different light is such a universal lesson for us all. So many commented that your energy, spirit, love for our country, and love for the Lord was inspiring. Veterans in the group still talk about the connection they felt with you and others in the group said they could “listen to you all day” due to the easy way in which you presented. The Brasfield & Gorrie VDC and Innovation Department thoroughly enjoyed Johnnie’s speech at our department summit. Our goal when contacting him was to drive home the importance of teamwork, communication, and positivity, which is exactly what he did and more. Johnnie’s delivery was so engaging, everyone in the room was captivated by his words. In addition, the time he spent with our group outside of his presentation was priceless. Everyone commented on how much they enjoyed getting to talk with him “off-line.” I can’t thank Johnnie enough for making such a big impact on our department and reminding everyone how important the entire team is to accomplishing our goals, and as he said “You can’t do anything with just the tip of a spear. You need the rest of the staff for it to be effective.”

Thank you so much for you inspiring talk at LLRS.  You cause quite an upheaval in my brain.  I have so many patients – you kids that have stiff joints or painful gaits.  I hope that your story will ring true with my patients.  I have a 13 year old that has had 15 surgeries to lengthen his leg.  He has a stiff foot.  I just wrote the letter of medical necessity to get them on the list for the brace.  I just wanted to say, ‘thank you”.  You really had quite an impact in 1 hour!!

Being a close friend of his for coming up on a decade, I have had the pleasure of hiring him for many speaking events, as well as, my contacts have hired him for their events after hearing him speak at mine. Our Rotary Club very much enjoyed hearing Johnnie speak about his experiences serving in the U.S. Air Force, and the direction his life has taken as a result of those experiences. His talk was informative and inspiring. He paints a vivid picture of what life is like for wounded military personnel and their families and friends, and the issues they face. I asked Johnnie to address our distinguished board of directors as a reminder of why we do what we do every day. As a Veteran, Johnnie spoke from the heart, shared his personal challenges and victories, with truth, compassion, and professionalism. He connected with our Members on a personal and professional level, sharing both tears and laughter. Johnnie motivated and inspired through his stories and words and forever impacted our Members.

I still remember vividly your compelling talk at the AMBA conference almost a year ago. I thought the entire presentation was excellent because of its sincerity and the drama of your service, your injury, and your gutsy recovery. I also loved the financial readiness aspect of your talk, especially when you related how some of the injured soldiers in the VA facility used their lump sum payouts to buy expensive cars and trucks, and very few of them invested in themselves by putting money away toward retirement or some other investment vehicle. It made me realize that you could be a very effective financial readiness outreach specialist.

Each year, the Association of Military Banks of America hosts a workshop that brings together member military banks and our government and non-profit military service organization partners. A standard feature at this event is our “Why We Serve” speaker — a person whose personal story will inspire our audience to return home even more dedicated to supporting their local military communities. In 2015, SSgt (Ret.) Johnnie Yellock was our “Why We Serve” speaker. His compelling presentation focused on his service, the wounds he received in combat, his rehabilitation, and the stories of several of his friends who paid the ultimate sacrifice. Not only did he describe why he served in uniform and continues to serve veterans today, he inspired all of us to do even more to serve our service members and their families. He made us proud to be Americans.

It was a pleasure to hear Johnnie Yellock speak to us at a Memorial Day program. The experiences he has had in the service of our country demonstrate his patriotism, honor, integrity and personal commitment to the principles our country stands for. He is a hero in every sense of the word. I was grateful to be able to bring my family to hear him speak and share his experiences. He helped us remember the huge sacrifices that our service members make every day for the cause of freedom. I would highly recommend his presentation to everyone.

He incentives me to stay focused ahead in my life w/my cancer illness too – as I have taken that high-road like JOYII and not look back. These are bumps in the road of life that God has placed in front of us and we need to figure out how to jump over them and keep going! My motto is “Failure is not an Option” and have to stay focused on the positive and not the negative.

Keep going. Keep doing. Don’t give up. These were the takeaway messages from Johnnie Yellock’s presentation to the Highland Village Business Association. These phrases may seem cliché or oft used – but when they come from someone who could have easily given up and chose not to, they serve as inspiration and hope for us all. Johnnie’s story and life is one of encouragement, humility and hope. The best testimonial from his presentation to our Association came from one of our members who struggles with her own disability and told us Johnnie’s message touched her deeply and gave her hope and encouragement to never give up. When Johnnie speaks all will be inspired to not only persevere but to pay attention and listen to those who struggle.

It was a fantastic event yesterday. We are still hearing how your presentation impacted and touched attendees. In fact, there is one woman who attends all the time and she never speaks much to us – she’s had Parkinson’s for nearly 20 years and deals with the effects of it. She stopped me on her way out and thanked us for having you speak. She said your story touched her deeply. Her motto is to never give up and what you said encouraged her and gave her hope. That’s what it is all about! And for me, I consciously took the time to slow down and listen to her and to hug her. So your message got through to me too. Keep going, keep doing. You are an inspiration and I believe God has you where he can use you the most right now. Thank you again! I hope we get to hear you again soon!

The Veterans Advisory Board of Flower Mound TX was honored to have SSgt Johnnie Yellock as the keynote speaker for the 2022 Veterans Day Ceremony. To honor those who have served and their families is a sacred mission for all communities. To have SSgt Yellock share his compelling story of service, sacrifice and continued leadership was truly appreciated by all!

We are still talking about your keynote speech at our City of NRH Veterans Day event that was last November! As we started discussing whom we might approach for our 2019 Veterans Day Event, everyone kept bringing up your inspirational and moving talk with our audience of veterans and their families.

To call Johnnie a speaker would be like calling Michael Jordan a basketball player. Johnnie epitomizes the art of telling a story, and it’s the best kind, because the story is his. His heart, his energy and his authenticity make him one of the most captivating leaders I’ve ever been around, and whenever I need a jolt of energy and perspective, I get a nice tall glass of Johnnie Yellock.

Johnnie is a natural storyteller and gifted public speaker. He has delivered multiple keynotes to broad audiences including C suite leaders, operations and manufacturing teams, sales and marketing, and HR teams. Johnnie’s messages inspire hope, faith, and perseverance.

On behalf of the Inter American Air Forces Academy (IAAFA) I want to thank you for your presentation on 26 January, 2012. Simply said, it was not just a home run – it was a grand slam! Your very candid comments regarding your background, your experience in Afghanistan, the injuries you sustained, and the challenges you have successfully overcome to date all combined to be an inspiration to each and every person in the auditorium The comments and feedback I received were sincerely complementary – clearly your words struck a chord. With the stress and strain of present day life in the military, our people received great benefit from listening to a warrior such as yourself, hearing about your perseverance through adversity, your resilience, and how you have adapted and overcome. You should take great pride in knowing that your words served as an inspiration and encouraged those dealing with their own challenges however great to press forward. My own opinion is that you clearly possess a gift, a gift you should share by continuing to speak to groups such as ours. You have a fantastic story to tell, and you tell it very effectively. Not everyone can do that.
